Bandırma Design Park

Urban imagery can be found in our minds as man-made commodities such as buildings, roads, crowded settlements. But the city is mainly about people, and the functions that keep a city in a state of work are like what people do or how they exist in that city. The open public spaces between the buildings are more important than the buildings themselves. Today, it is the public spaces that change cities and prepare themselves for the future. The key factor in creating a great city in the future and in the past is that it is possible to create public spaces that can be experienced, loved and most importantly adopted.

In this context the question was “what makes a public space work?”

The answer to this problem was to design the public spaces, taking into account the needs and desires of the people. It turned out that this area was transformed into a "place" for everyone to live in every way. There is always the power of public spaces with a spirit. There is also the power to change how public spaces feel about the city how people live in the city.

Public spaces are places that remind people that they exist in city life. People want to stay and live in the city because they enjoy this lifestyle.

This context has always been considered in the design of Bandirma's new park. The enjoyment of the people, the enjoyment of the city life, the self-discovery, and the most important thing to do freely what they wanted.

Design Institute

The individual's precaution.

Living like a tree, single and free, and like a forest with fraternity. Nazim Hikmet RAN

Today we humans can do everything in nature for the benefit of mankind, but it may be easy to
extinguish a small tree from earth, but it was preferred in the design of this structure that this little tree will represent itself as representing the individual and their rights and it can show itself at the entrance of the structure. Design ideas are created by the free expression of individual ideas.

Symbolizing the tree, preserving it and keeping it alive became a top priority. This understanding also applies to the entire park. And all nations want keeping themselves alive and protection from all kind of destruction.
The metaphorical message wanted to be given is not to cut down trees for a building with a wood planks. The triangular form of the structure is shaped to refer to the area it is located in.

Open exhibition areas where design products can be displayed to the public, workshops linking to the history of Bandirma, and a landscape of sea and forest in the north surrounds the design institute from three sides. The building establishes a relationship with the lowering of a corner that it is located with the topography it is on. The modern timber shell has participated in the design of the local material around Bandirma for easy availability. The town of Dursunbey, where timber workshops are located, is also home to Dursunbey Wood Industry and Trade Incorporated Company, which is located at a distance of 140 km from Bandirma. Also the company established by public partnership.

The Park

In this context, the primary criteria for the creation of a holistic environmental character are: topographic analysis, textual definitions, third dimension effect, variable and flexible use, movement and benefits.

Topographic Analysis

The surface form is the most important design input that has been modified and transformed to respond to different functions. The inclined surfaces in the design area are intended not to be an obstacle but to be enjoyed by the topography by adapting users to different surfaces. It should not be forgotten that city surfaces can only provide horizontal and vertical planes for users. Surface form is an important influence as it exposes spatial continuity and content that presents the use efficiency of designs. Meeting Loop created for gathering people on a slope surface with a semi open atrium space.

Third Dimension Effect

The use of temporary structures and three-dimensional elements to facilitate spatial identification and their use in different layouts, including a specific repetition, play a role in the development of functional space editing. In this context, it was aimed to design three-dimensional landscape items in the sloping areas in the north and south parts of the area. In this context, design elements created by natural factors such as sun, reflection and especially wind will help users to perceive the environment in their different dimensions.

Movement

Many movement activities that requires a certain space aimed to made it possible for people in Bandirma Park. Sloped surfaces of area able to citizens to lie down and an elevated cycling and running path loops the perimeter of the area. In addition, the dynamic structure which is the result of the reflection of the city as a symbol of seasonal, monthly and daily change of the changing face of the landscape makes it possible to experience the space in different forms at different times in response to the monotonous urban environment.

Textural Definitions

Different spatial fictions are designed with spatial texture definitions created by using artificial and natural materials with different properties. Strengthening of spatial definition in two dimensions and different spaces are aimed to design in the context of light, color and textural effect. Cities under the dominance of roads and buildings tend to create a monotone visual image in daily life.

Variable and Flexible

Use Providing user flexibility in design in terms of exploring the space and ownership of the space, and multifunctionality includes suggestions given by Bandirma Park in landscape design. It is foreseen that everything that can not be done in Bandirma can be done in the Bandirma Park area.

Benefits

Bandirma Park aims to support directly or indirectly jobs. The Park creates a “halo” effect on surrounding property values. The Park increased the value of surrounding property. Healthy living is encouraged for all ages and abilities with places to play, compete, enjoy fresh air and nature.
